THE NAME
A Word Big Enough for Everything We Do
I started Vivasayee’s Life as a blog, a documentation initiative. It slowly transformed into a brand of organic groceries brand. The name Vivasayee’s Life resonated with us because the name was rooted in solidarity with farmers, with the belief that agricultural life deserved dignity and a fair market. That intention hasn’t changed, but the work has grown.
Today, Vaanavizha is the word we reach for. Vaanam means sky in Tamil. Vizha means festival, celebration. Together, they mean a celebration of everything under the sky.
Not just farmers. Not just humans. Every creature, every organism, every quiet process that makes life on this land possible.
The name asks us to hold all of it – the soil, the seed, the tree, the bee, the weaver, the artisan, the tapper, the cook, the customer – in one gesture of gratitude.

THE FARM
Vaanavil Farm & Food Forest : Where the Brand Began to Take Shape
Our own 12 acres in Vikramasingapuram, Tirunelveli have been practicing something we didn’t always have a word for. Biochar buried into the soil to hold carbon for decades. Compost turning waste into life. Coconut husks laid as mulch so the earth never goes thirsty. A food forest growing denser each year – not rows of a single crop, but a community of plants.
The farm’s name – Vaanavil, meaning rainbow – had already been pointing us somewhere. And now the brand follows: VaanaVizha is aligned with Vaanavil because the values were always the same. Regeneration over extraction. Abundance through diversity. Long-term thinking over short-term yield.
OUR ROOTS
Tamil Nadu’s Soil. South Tamil Nadu’s Soul.
Our commitment to farmers has always had a geography. Every product that reaches you is sourced from Tamil Nadu – grown, harvested, and crafted here. Our closest relationships, and our deepest procurement focus, is South Tamil Nadu: the farmers and makers of Tirunelveli, Tenkasi, Kanyakumari districts. As we reach out to more farmers from across Tamil Nadu, as we build trust with them, we have started to list produce from beyond these 3 districts.
Local isn’t just a value on our label. It is a discipline. It means we know whose hands touched this rice. It means the supply chain is short enough to be honest. And it means that when farming communities in our region do well, that success is directly connected to the choices you make at checkout.
Every purchase from Vaanavizha is a vote for a farmer in South Tamil Nadu — and for the soil they tend.
THE COMMUNITY
Beyond Farmers: A Whole Ecosystem of Makers
Over time, the circle of people we work with quietly grew beyond farms. We began listing the work of artisans – people crafting with organic handwoven cotton, with coconut shells, with Palmyra leaves, with the sap of the Palmyra tree. Toddy tappers who climb before dawn. Weavers who work without synthetic thread. Makers who carry knowledge that industrial production has no patience for.
The old name – Vivasayee’s Life, the farmer’s life – honoured one part of this world. But these artisans aren’t farmers in the conventional sense. They are, however, deeply part of the same ecology: rooted in traditional material, in seasonal rhythm, in non-extractive making.
We named our first venture Vivasayee’s Life because we wanted to say, loudly, that a farmer’s life is worth living. It did that job. But over time the name started to feel like it was still making that argument, still asking to be taken seriously. VaanaVizha doesn’t argue. It just shows up. That felt like the right kind of change.
THE PRACTICAL NUDGE
There Was a Trademark Conflict
I want to be frank about the practical side : the name Vivasayee’s Life had run into a trademark conflict. I realized this during the conversion of the initiative from a Sole Properietorship to a OPC Private Limited Company. That was the moment the question became unavoidable – do we fight to hold onto the old name, or do we let it be the nudge to become more fully what we already are?
We chose the latter. The trademark situation gave us permission to do what the work had been quietly asking for anyway. Sometimes constraints are gifts. This one was.
As we scale up slowly every year (growth not being the primary objective, only a consequential one), we did not want legal concerns to become a roadblock.
New web addresses
Our logo is new. Our name is new. The soil under our feet, the relationships we’ve built, the values we work by – those remain exactly as they were.
This transition will happen gradually. For a while, you will see both names – Vivasayee’s Life and VaanaVizha – on our products and packaging. Both are us, in the same season of change.
